The 2026 Mahogany Dermatology Nursing | Education | Research™ Internship is officially open for applications.
If you've been following along this year, you've watched Jade Trevino, BSN, RN, transform from a registered nurse searching for ways to stay connected to dermatology into a published author, business owner, educator, and thought leader. That transformation didn't happen by accident. It happened because she made one decision: to apply.
Now it's your turn.
This isn't a certificate program where you pay tuition, complete modules, and add a line to your resume.
This isn't a shadowing experience where you observe from the sidelines.
This is a year-long apprenticeship where you work directly with me to build the skills that nursing school didn't teach you: research dissemination, academic writing, business development, and thought leadership in dermatology nursing.
You'll publish. You'll speak. You'll learn how dermatology businesses are built. You'll serve on advisory boards. You'll attend conferences. You'll recruit the next generation of interns. And by the end of the year, you'll have a portfolio of work that positions you as an authority in this field.
Publishing and Writing:
You'll write and publish 12 monthly reflection articles on the Mahogany Dermatology Blog. These aren't generic posts; they're deeply personal narratives about your growth, challenges, and wins throughout the year. You'll also have the opportunity to contribute peer-reviewed articles to dermatology, nursing, and science journals.
ACNP Advisory Board:
Starting in Month 2 (March 2026), you'll serve on the ACNP Advisory Board. Your primary focus will be helping the Alliance of Cosmetic Nurse Practitioners™ (ACNP) achieve ANCC accreditation. This isn't busywork; this is real, strategic work that will shape the future of cosmetic nursing education.
Conference Attendance:
You'll attend at least one dermatology conference of your choice in 2026 (you pay). You'll also attend our September In-person workshop. We cover your travel, lodging, and registration for the ACNP sponsored event.
AI Training and Digital Fluency:
During Month 1, you'll complete AI training courses through Google and Amazon (free resources). You'll learn how to use AI tools to streamline research, content creation, and business operations. This isn't optional, it's foundational to how we work.
Business Development:
You'll assist with marketing, social media management, partnership development, and event planning. You'll sit in on discovery calls. You'll watch how collaborations are built. You'll see the behind-the-scenes work that turns ideas into revenue-generating initiatives.
Mentorship:
You'll meet with me bi-weekly for 60-minute video calls. We'll review your projects, discuss your goals, troubleshoot challenges, and plan next steps. These meetings aren't lectures, they're working sessions where we strategize together.
Succession Planning:
In December 2026 and January 2027, you'll help recruit and train the 2027 intern. You'll update the application, market the internship, conduct screening interviews, and assist with onboarding. This positions you as a leader who can build systems and teach others.
When Jade applied for the 2025 internship, she had just lost her job and was trying to figure out how to stay connected to dermatology without full-time employment. She didn't have publications. She didn't have a business. She wasn't sure what her next step looked like.
Twelve months later, here's what she built:
✅ Published Research: Co-authored an AI and dermatology research paper
✅ 12 Monthly Reflection Articles: Published on the Mahogany Dermatology Blog
✅ Business Launch: Established Go Skin Check LLC, a mobile skin cancer screening service
✅ Teaching Roles: Created and led presentations for the ACNP Cosmetic Business Foundations Courses
✅ Advisory Board: Founding member of the ACNP Advisory Board
✅ Speaking Engagements: Multiple invitations to speak
✅ Mentorship: Began mentoring another aspiring entrepreneur
✅ Thought Leadership: Launched a YouTube channel and x2 websites documenting her journey and thought leadership as a nurse leader, educator, and researcher
That's not luck. That's what happens when you commit to showing up, doing the work, and saying yes even when you're unsure.

This internship is for nurses and nurse practitioners who:
You don't need to have publications. You don't need to have a business. You don't need to be an expert in dermatology yet.
You just need to be ready to learn, willing to work, and committed to the process.
The application includes:
1. Personal Essay (750-1,000 words)
You'll answer questions about your purpose outside of nursing, your career vision, your understanding of the healthcare industry, your dermatology interests, your experience with technology and AI, and what you'd do if you weren't afraid of what others think.
2. Dermatology Writing Sample
You'll write an article on a dermatology topic (screening, diagnosis, treatment, education, access to care, etc.) with a clearly defined audience, research methodology, and implications for nursing. Minimum of 3 references published in the last 5 years. APA format required.
3. Three Letters of Recommendation
From professionals who can speak to your scholarly and/or clinical accomplishments, qualities, and contributions.
4. 2026 Calendar/Availability
A tentative schedule showing your availability throughout the year.
5. Agreement to Sign NDA and Work-for-Hire Agreement
This protects both of us and ensures clarity around intellectual property.
6. Commitment to Internship Requirements
You'll confirm your understanding and commitment to all internship responsibilities, including monthly reflections, conference attendance, ACNP Advisory Board service, AI training, and 2027 intern recruitment.
All applicants, whether selected for the internship or not, will have the opportunity to have their dermatology writing sample published on the Mahogany Dermatology Blog.
This means that even if you're not selected, you still walk away with a published piece of work that you can add to your portfolio.
If you are selected, you'll receive notification in early February 2026. The internship begins February 9, 2026, and runs through February 6, 2027.
Let me be clear about what this internship is not:
This is not passive learning. You won't sit in lectures or watch pre-recorded modules. You'll be doing real work that gets published, presented, and implemented.
This is not a guaranteed path to anything. I can't promise you'll get a job, build a million-dollar business, or become famous in dermatology. What I can promise is that if you show up consistently and do high-quality work, you'll leave with a portfolio, skills, and connections that will open doors.
This is not easy. There will be tight deadlines. There will be projects that push you outside your comfort zone. There will be moments when you question whether you can do this.
But that's the point. Growth doesn't happen in comfort.
After watching Jade's transformation this year, I could have easily decided that one intern was enough. The time investment is significant. The emotional investment is real. The risk of bringing someone into your business, your vision, your life, that's not small.
But here's what I learned: when you invest in one person, you're actually investing in everyone they'll go on to teach, mentor, and inspire.
Jade is already in a nurse-led mastermind. She's already sharing what she learned with her nursing colleagues. She's already showing other nurses what's possible.
That ripple effect is worth every hour I invested.
So I'm doing it again. And if you're ready, this could be your year.
Applications are open now through January 24, 2026 at 11:59 PM CST.
If you have questions, email hello@mahoganydermatology.com.
Don't wait until the last minute. Strong applications take time to prepare, and you'll want to give yourself space to write thoughtfully, gather your recommendations, and craft a dermatology article that represents your best work.
This isn't for everyone. But if you're ready to stop waiting for permission and start building your authority in dermatology nursing, this is your opportunity.
Let's go. 🤎
